Playstation 4 Development Began in August 2010

One of the questions on everyone’s mind is when the Playstation 4 will see release, with Wii U set to debut later this year, when will Sony’s very own home console offering make its entrance? According to the LinkedIn profile of Attila Vass, the next generation may be closer than we think.

Vass, who worked at Sony Computer Entertainment from May 1998 to April 2012, claims that he began working on the graphics library and security for  the “Next Generation Playstation” in August 2010, and has been developing these concepts ever since.

Vass’ LinkedIn profile reads:

“In 1998 I started as the first engineer in the Playstation US R&D, I worked on graphics ( COLLADA, PSGL ) and a lot of network related technologies ( advertising, telemetry, PVRs ) for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms. Platform security was occupying most of my time at the last years… “

SCEA boss Jack Tretton however was keen to emphasize that PS4 is not just around the corner, and Sony are working incredibly hard on manufacturing a quality product:

“If you can build a better machine and it’s going to come out a little bit later, that’s better than rushing something to market that’s going to run out of gas for the long-term.”

Hopefully this means that a Playstation 4 reveal is not too far away; although we wouldn’t take this as definite confirmation of an announcement anytime soon. Still, it’s nice to hear some news about the Playstation 4 at long last, isn’t it?
